It is really great to see this year’s GUADEC videos being released so soon after the event. Thank you Flumotion and Fluendo!!!
My only gripe is that yet again my talk’s timeslot seems to have experienced technical difficulty and is not available (the file is only 27min long). Hopefully that is just a temporary glitch.
It is still an amazing feat of engineering that such as new technology such as WebM codec was used not only to provide archives of the conference but to also stream live. Not to mention the software and codec used are both Open Source.

So soon? It’s been a MONTH! What were they doing for a month? The quality is atrocious – very low resolution and blocky, even for the file size. What’s more, they haven’t been edited for time when a talk isn’t actually going on and have the missing parts that you talk about. Really disappointed.

It used to take a year. Editing takes manpower and transcoding such large streams takes time.

Besides you could have watched it live which is instant.

But it hasn’t been edited! The first video is 127 mb and has nothing in it for example. And I know it hasn’t been transcoded – it’s in the same format, resolution and quality as when it was live.

And transcoding a two hour DVD at high quality takes one hour on my laptop.

These are very clearly just dumps of the original streams. No transcoding, no editing.

*sigh* that is why they aren’t edited yet. It takes time for someone to go through and match everything up to the schedule, especially since no one is paying them to do it. The dumps are there so we can get them without waiting too long. I’m sorry if a month is too long for you but trying to compare you ripping a DVD to them delivering content to a wider audience using a new technology is a pretty naive comparison. I’m not sure why you are complaining, this was all donated to the conference. Would you have rather no one did it? From the streams I experienced while at the conference, they were streaming at a higher quality. Next year I expect they will have learned from any mistakes and the technology will have matured a bit more.

I am so disappointed! There is nothing to see on the first day concerning paris. The talks are obviously missing! I was searching for Owens Gnome shell talk which was held on the first day, although sceduled for the second.
Also the fact that I have to download a 1 Gig video file for 1 talk is disturbing.
Everything looks so unprofessional and annoying. To be honest, that pisses me off a bit.

Hi guys,
We understand a lot of you have been having problems with the GUADEC files and we really appreciate your feedback.
We have now uploaded the conference VOD files split into hourly recordings and hope these new files solve any issues you have. This should also make it easier to watch the talks you want without downloading huge files.
You can download the new files here:
