Sean’s wedding is down in the books and now it is time for my twin sister’s wedding. For that I am flying out to Rome today and will be running around Italy for the next two weeks. Four days in Rome, three in Venice, three in Lake Como and one in Milan.
I won’t be bringing a computer so I will only be checking my public e-mail accounts infrequently at internet cafe’s. The best way to reach me will be by phone.

Hey, if you spend a night in Milan don’t miss the local breweries (if you like beer, of course). You can find the best beer at “Birrificio Lambrate” and “HOP”, they’re both on the east side.
Probably the best way to enjoy Milan’s nightlife if you don’t like Dance Music.
You’ll probably be disappointed a bit of Como, because the retarded local government built a huge wall right in front of the Lake.
In Rome, don’t ever eat a pizza near the Colosseum.
Oh, gondoliers are real assholes

I didn’t have time to do the Beer thing. I think if I’m in the north again I’ll make Milan a real destination instead of an overnight stay before hopping a plane. I must say the worldpool bath at the Michelangelo hotel was a god send after two weeks of walking around various cities and being in some hotels without sufficient water pressure. Rome was awesome as always, Venice beautiful but the air a bit thick (I got a cold and the air quality made it worse) and it was very touristy. I wasn’t actually in Como but elsewhere on the lake. I was staying in Verana and toured Bellagio and Menagio, each having their own character and charm. The air was much nicer at the lake as was the food. I especially liked some of the craft stores. They may be set up for tourists but at least I could get an olive wood cheese board built by crafts people who worked in the very same storefront they sold out of. I would have done some more adventurous stuff like kayak on the lake but it was just off season and I couldn’t find the tour offices, one of which was described as being just behind the ferry dock. I’m guessing they are temporary structures setup during the peak season. I did however go to a cooking class on the hill side at Il Caminetto. That was fun but the winding road up and then back down almost saw me lose my lunch.
Italy continues to be my favorite country in Europe though right now I am pretty done with pasta and pizza, at least for the next few weeks.
