I just want to add, that it just gives me a sinking feeling inside when i look at the great work that Michael Dominic did with Diva and the eventual abandonment of the Project.

Diva's UI was/is great. The project had so much potential... but all was lost.

I/we can only hope that Michael does pursue his project using MLT or something.

There are still some demos available to view:
http://www.mdk.org.pl/2006/03/27/diva-0-0-1

Maybe Michael Dominic would send you some files if requested.

Tim,

Do you have a link to Diva. All the pages I can find through google point to dead links.

I agree with your list of features, but still think the UI can be improved.

A good example is organisation of available clips and audio in the Diva Video Editor which is IMHO perfect. The timeline is well done as well.

So maybe the UI of Diva can be used as source of inspiration.

I agree, cross-fades, still-image frames, seperate audio & video, and rock-solid stability are what I need.

Last time I tried Pitivi it didn't support image files as frames. That was a blocker for me as I was composing a presentation video. It's nice to hear the feature is now in!

Crossfades are not as necessary as you might think. For instance, in your last video, you could have used straight cuts instead of fading to the closeup of plugging in the projector.

Bravo for dogfooding the apps, though!
