Blast from the Past

Filed under: Gnome, celebration, music — J5 @ 4:19 pm

Before I became a Frontman for the Drooling Macaque Band I headlined for an independent band out of White Plains, NY called Torque. Fresh from being digitized on YouTube, footage from the White Plains High School battle of the bands where Torque took home gold in 1994 is now online. This includes our grand entrance, the crooning original rock balad Hour Glass and rocking rendition of Come Together. Looks like my friend and fellow band mate Aaron is posting the whole show piece by piece so check back on his YouTube page for more.

Ahh, now I can laugh and cry any day of the week. Crazy kids.

Episode 1 of the Red Hat Magazine OLPC Video Blog

Every once in awhile the office turns into a TV studio of sorts with people from outfits such as 60 minutes and Reuters coming in to shoot B-roll and conduct interviews. It was about a month ago when some people from Red Hat Magazine came in to shoot what is to become a regular video blog about the OLPC project. This weekend episode 1 went live. Look for more to come as the project progresses.

MIA in MIA

I’m sitting here in Miami International Airport and well, I am missing in action right now after being rerouted twice. First I didn’t have enough time to get to my San Paulo/New York flight because of delays in Recife so they rerouted me to to Miami with a standby to Boston. After not having enough time to get to the Boston flight, it was standby anyway, I am now rerouted at 12:00 to New York and then on to Boston. The good news is they bumped me to first class and confirmed my flight instead of just putting me on further standby.

Despite all of this I must say that American Airlines service is quite good. I can’t blame them for the delays and they were very helpful. They went as far as finding a shipping container for the gift of Cachasa I bought at the airport but couldn’t be brought in carry-on. They even worked with me to find the best routing plan with the attendant going as far as looking for flights to Fort Myres where I could stay with my Aunt for a bit while air travel cleared up. In any case I should be back in Boston around 5 tonight whittling my troubles away sipping on complementary Champagne. I think this is how they hook you.

BOSSA is over and it was a lot of fun as well as very productive as I have gotten a lot of key people interested in both OLPC and D-Bus. The INdT guys were perfect hosts during and after the conference. This just says it all:

Funny Quote

Criticizing a recent study that found the Atkins Diet fared better than a number of other diets, Dr. Dean Ornish, creator of the Ornish diet stated:

It’s a lot easier to follow a diet that tells you to eat bacon and brie than to eat predominantly fruits and vegetables

But isn’t that the point? I don’t care how super effective something is in a lab, it is useless if it is just too hard to follow, use or understand in real life. Think about it.
