So it seems that my friend who has been hosting the martianrock.com domain for the past three years is way too busy and is closing down his hosting service. I need to move by the end of the month. Does anyone know of an inexpensive place to park my domain which has wordpress access, reasonable disk space and reliable imap e-mail?

I just signed up for dreamhost.com. Everything has been great so far, and I used a coupon to get $9 for the year for the basic package.

I’ve heard good things about Dreamhost as well. I’m currently hosted on TextDrive, and I’ve been quite happy with them.

Shane Bishop, why don’t you tell people that that code puts $17.00 into your own pocket? I like DreamHost but I loathe how their rewards program turns people into unscrupulous hucksters. Disclosure is part of being honest, you know?
I made a code, DH97, that gives the maximum discount possible for all plans and puts $0 into my own pocket. See http://www.dreamhost.com/rewards.html for exactly how it works. I can’t turn off the 5% double-indirect kickback but I doubt that will ever be relevant…
Best is, of course, to contact a friend who’s already on DreamHost and have them make you a code.

I’ve been using 1and1.com for two years now. I don’t remember having *any* problem with them. It’s a bit more expensive though.
In case you don’t make your mind until the end of the month, I still have an extra 1and1 account that is free until the end of the year. I don’t mind if you use it.

John,
As I mentioned in the e-mail, it was a very hard decision since I love running my own servers (14 now to be exact!), however with me now as busy as ever with the new gig in NYC and starting a family, time is really tough!
Maintaining the hardware and software at each of my 8 co-loc’s was getting really burdening as well as very expensive.
As I mentioned, I moved all of my domains over to 1and1 (they gave me the best deal). (Over 60 domains were moved without one glitch!)
Both Mark, SuperTom and Mike all use 1and1 (I moved Mike off my servers about 3 weeks ago). Each of them has a WordPress config and I believe that Mark uses them for imap as well. (I haven’t heard of any problems.)
Shoot me over an e-mail towards the end of the month and we’ll wrap things up.
