Garrett it is illegal for the landlord to have you sign a lease without telling you about the lead paint first. They also must have you sign a release paper stating that they told you about the lead paint. The paper tells you your rights under the law. I know because our broker had us sign one. There are a couple of conditions such as having kids or being pregnant in which the landlord must pay to have the apartment deleaded. If there is chipping it is a serious health hazard. I would suggest going through the proper channels to see if you get your city to do an inspection and compel your landlord to make it safe for you to live in.
